Sunday Morning | March 26, 2023 | John C. Majors | Louisville, Kentucky
The passage discusses the issue of division in John 7:40-52 and identifies two roots of division: truth and power. The first root, truth, is shown through the people's refusal to seek the truth about Jesus' origin. The second root, power, is demonstrated through the officials' encounter with Jesus and their response to his power. The Pharisees respond to those who were sincerely wrestling with Jesus' identity with four different responses: condescension, ignorance, accusation, and opposition. Nicodemus, who raises his hand to question their actions, is accused of being for the other team. The passage highlights the importance of being teachable and open to learning new things, submitting to the gospel, and being patient when asking sincere questions.
